4 Do’s When Shipping Your Vehicle Using a Car Carrier

05 Aug 2020

car hauler, car carrierFor many people, opting for a car hauler company is the best way to get their vehicle to their new location unspoiled. Cross-country trips can often be a hassle due to the time it takes and unfamiliarity with the roads. Organizing this move does however involve multiple considerations. When choosing a car carrier, note these four do’s.

1.      Compare Prices and Policies

Gather quotes from as many reputable car carriers as possible. Ensure you use a provider with a good reputation for reliability and communication. Most people will focus on getting the lowest priced deal possible; however, there may be unexpected fees that will still increase your price.  Read the terms of the contract to ensure that there are no hidden costs or unfavorable policy.  Read the policy’s pickup location and note additional fees that may occur for extended wait time.

2.      Request a Quote

A car hauler company usually provides a free quote.  Requesting a quote is very simple and easy.  It only takes a minute or two to fill out their online form.  You may also contact their staff for an immediate response.  They will need very basic information such as the origin of the city, state and zip code.  They will also need the city, state and zip code’s destination.  Lastly, provide your contact information, the pickup date, the vehicle make, model and year.

3.      Consider Other Aspects

What will your car insurance cover during the transit of your vehicle?   Are there additional liability insurance required?   Will there be an additional fuel surcharge?  How are the fuel surcharge adjusted according to the US Department of Energy National’s Average Diesel Fuel Index? Does the car carrier offer tracking? Have they passed a satisfactory safety rating?

4.      Prepare Your Car for Transport

This involves multiple steps including cleaning your car to ensure you properly note any scratches or other damage. A clean car will display the condition of the paint and bodywork better before loading. Also, remove any loose items that may get jostled in transport and be damaged. Check for any leaks and inflate your tires. While you should disable the alarm, do ensure you lock the car once it is loaded on the car carrier.
