Benefits of Choosing FTL Freight Shipping

03 Jul 2018

In the fluid society that is the 21st century, moving has become a fact of life. And movers have studied the system to make it a seamless: fast and efficient delivery, along with the maximum use of space, all at a minimum cost to their clients.

However, the cost should not be the only consideration for moving. Of equal importance is the security of the merchandise being transferred. FTL freight shipping would ensure the maximum protection for sensitive cargo.

Two Types of Freight Shipping

Full truckload or FTL freight shipping is used when you have to transfer merchandise that measures close to the 48’ or a 53’ trailer or weighs more than 10,000 pounds. Less than truckload or LTL freight shipping is used when you need less storage or just a portion of a truck.

LTL freight shipping allows for savings on cost per transaction because more than one client is paying for freight space, sharing the cost of shipping a full truck. The cost will, of course, be divided according to weight and the size of the merchandise.

How to Save on Delivery Time and Cost

To save on delivery time and in order for shipping to cost less, merchandise being moved via LTL freight shipping may be transferred from one truck to another. With this, trucks can split up at a certain point and the goods arrive sooner rather than later. This arrangement should be known to the clients beforehand so that those shipping sensitive items may choose another option.

This would be FTL freight shipping. More clients choose to pay extra for FTL carriers to move their merchandise. The extra cost will eliminate undue handling because the dedicated truck has only one destination, and there is no need to transfer the merchandise or handle them in any way. The dedicated truck also means that items arrive sooner. The truck will go straight to the delivery point with minimum stopovers.

This is not to say that LTL freight shipping will take that much more time. Like FTL carriers, they are still required to provide their clients with the schedule of their shipment’s arrival and adhere to this time frame.

So why not just use FTL freight shipping for all moving needs? That would be an irresponsible use of fuel resources. Using one whole truck when you don’t have to, therefore, puts unnecessary strain on the environment.

So if your merchandise isn’t so sensitive to handling and if you have time to spare, use the LTL freight shipping service instead. Just make sure to pack your items properly — preferably in a single box. And look for an experienced company with a reliable track record.
