Reasons Personal Car Transport Providers Discourage Extra Cargo

When relocating, many people will engage the services of a personal car transport provider to ship their vehicle to their new home. It is often more convenient than driving the distance as it means no extra mileage and a reduced risk of an accident occurring along the way.

During this time, many people are often tempted to pack some of their luggage into their car, thinking it is a handy way to get more of their stuff to their new home without much hassle. After all, cars have plenty of room in the cabin and trunk. While it is not illegal to do so, it is a habit that is strongly discouraged by transporters for several reasons.

Damage to the car

While personal auto transport providers try to be gentle with the handling of the vehicles they ship, there are instances where circumstances could be beyond their control. Bad weather, unseen potholes along the road, and other events could cause the vehicles to be jerked around and if there is anything loose in the vehicle, cause damage to the interior and other parts. Transporters will always advise that you remove anything not secured from within the vehicle to reduce this risk of damage.

Theft of cargo

There is an increased risk of theft happening if someone notices that there is unattended luggage in a vehicle being transported. More so for those traveling long distances. In such cases, the driver of the carrier will likely need to make stops along the way for rest, to eat, and fuel. This would allow criminals with a keen eye to notice extra items inside the vehicle. This can encourage them to break into the car, causing damage to the vehicle and the loss of the items stolen from within. Having luggage or other items that can be seen from windows packed in the car is often an invitation for theft and vandalism to occur.

Added Cost

The cost of shipping a vehicle using a personal auto transport provider is partly pegged on the weight of the vehicle. There are usually weight limits based on the make and model of the vehicle. If you exceed these limits, it may mean having to pay extra shipping costs or even having the vehicle rejected for shipment by the carrier. It makes more sense to simply ship your items with the rest of your luggage. You risk heavy financial penalties by adding cargo where you should not.
